Patricia was elected to the senate by 81% of the vote in 2006, becoming the first Latina elected to the Minnesota State Senate.

Patricia represents district 62 which includes Seward, Longfellow, Cooper, Corcoran, Howe, Standish, Bancroft, Hiawatha, Ericsons, Northrup, Page, Hale, Keewaydin, Minnehaha, Morris Park, Wenonah, Diamond Lake and Windom neighborhoods.
